Driving: How is training at a driving school?

Learn driving a car on your own is prohibited by law, you must receive a certificate of successful completion of auto courses and prove with it at the traffic police exams that you are a confident driver who knows traffic rules.

Terms of training

The standard term of study at a driving school is approximately three months. Sometimes the study is faster, sometimes it stretches out for a longer period. The main thing that affects the duration is the number of classes per week. Legislatively, study at a driving school has 190 hours:

  • 130 hours – theoretical lessons.
  • 56 hours – driving practice at the autodrome (site) and in the city.
  • 4 hours – exam.

The number of hours cannot be changed. But if you want to finish your studies faster, some schools offer express training with a tighter schedule. Then the study will last 1.5-2 months or less.

Forms of training in a driving school

The standard form of instruction is the study of theory in the classroom. A group of several people, usually 10-15, study theory in specially equipped classrooms. The teacher reveals theoretical aspects, students solve tests, analyze traffic situations. But not everyone has time to attend classes according to the standard scheme. Therefore, other forms of teaching theory have been developed:

  • Evening and weekend groups.
  • Individual training: the student negotiates a convenient time for classes and communicates with the theory teacher personally.
  • Distance learning online via the Internet through webinars.

Passing a medical examination

To enter a driving school, a candidate must pass a medical examination to confirm that there are no contraindications to driving a vehicle or health restrictions under which it is allowed to drive only with additional equipment, such as glasses. For rights of categories A, B and M pass:

  • Psychiatrist;
  • Narcologist;
  • Ophthalmologist;
  • Therapist.

Certain driving categories require a visit to an otolaryngologist and neurologist.

There are three ways to go to the necessary doctors:

  1. At the driving school. Some schools sometimes invite doctors to their place, and you can go through a medical examination for a fee. The method is the most convenient and fastest.
  2. In a private clinic. Again, you will have to pay, but the procedure will be simple and short-lived.
  3. In government clinics. It will be the cheapest, but it will take time. You may have to come more than once.

After passing the medical commission, a certificate of form 083 / u-89 is issued, confirming the absence of contraindications. It is valid for a year. The student candidate submits the following documents for the driving school:

  • The passport
  • Medical certificate;
  • 4 photos of 3×4 mm;
  • Statement.

If everything is in order, it remains to choose the form of training, agree on the schedule of classes. You can start the learning process at a driving school.

Theoretical training

Before a candidate driver gets behind the wheel, he must master the basics of the theory of traffic rules. With a teacher, he studies traffic rules, road signs, markings, the system of fines. Since passing the exam at the traffic police is on tickets, you will have to purchase an up-to-date collection of questions.

Several lessons are necessarily devoted to the study of the basics of providing first aid. Unfortunately, road accidents and other accidents are not uncommon. The driver must know how to stop bleeding, carry out resuscitation measures.

Also, students are superficially familiar with the device of the car. Much time is not devoted to this, but you need to have a rough idea of the forces that make the car move.

The fourth thematic block of the training program is related to the basics of road safety. During the lecture, students will learn how to keep distance and lateral spacing, react to unusual traffic situations, drive in bad weather, and other useful moments.

A standard lesson in a driving school lasts an hour and a half, sometimes double lessons are held, lasting three hours. The teacher has the right to regularly check how knowledge is acquired by means of small tests. At the end of the theoretical course, final testing is carried out. If a student fails him, he will have to retake until the result is satisfactory.

You can go to practice. Sometimes the driving lessons begin before the completion of the theory course. But most driving schools allow students to practice only after they have fully mastered the theory.

Training apparatus

Prior to the start of the direct driving training program, students take 1 or 2 lessons in a car simulator – a special device that simulates a car. It includes the seat, seat belts, gearbox and other parts of the car that surround the driver. The screens simulate the view through the windshield and in the side mirrors. On the simulator, the student will master such skills as:

  • Starting the car.
  • Gas, brake, clutch pedal control.
  • Gear shifting, etc.

Car simulator exercises are useful, especially for students who have no idea about driving. They help to properly tune in and navigate faster while driving a real car.

Mechanics or automatic?

Driving school students have a choice: learn to drive a car with a manual gearbox from an automatic one. Driving a car with a manual transmission seems to be more complicated. But it teaches us to feel the car. In addition, a driver who knows how to drive a mechanic can change to a machine, if necessary. You can’t do the opposite. Therefore, it is recommended to give preference to mechanics when teaching.

Practical training

Finally, it’s time to get behind the wheel. Let us analyze what is the procedure for teaching driving. The lesson lasts an hour and a half, but, again, paired lessons are not uncommon. At first, it is better to refrain from them. An instructor and a car are assigned to the student (if possible, taking into account personal wishes).

The first driving lesson is a stressful but interesting experience for learners. Usually, a beginner is taught to adjust the mirrors and adjust the seat, get under way, brake correctly, and make a U-turn on a safe section of the road. The instructor is always nearby: his place is equipped with clutch and brake pedals. Therefore, in an emergency, he will not allow an accident.

Classes on the site

Driving schools have a specially equipped closed area – an autodrome or a playground. It can be owned by the same school or shared. On the site, students practice the following exercises:

  • Entrance to the flyover.
  • U-turn in a confined space.
  • Parallel parking.
  • Entrance to the box.
  • Turns.
